A session is terminated if the user ENDs out of the last active window. The user’s entry in the Session table is then removed, as are temporary storage queues and related temporary tables. The next time the user signs on, he will begin at his defined starting point.
If a user enters the command CICS or its alias X, the session is suspended rather than terminated. The next time the user enters TBOL, the Session table will identify the user as already having a session in progress. The screen that is displayed will be the last screen used in the most recently created window and the session will be restored at this point.
The session restoration feature allows a user to:
- leave one terminal and continue the session at another terminal.
- leave tablesONLINE/CICS and continue with other work and to resume tablesONLINE/CICS at the point of departure.
- continue a session after a terminal has temporarily been disconnected from CICS because of transmission or controller difficulties.
As well, the session restoration feature allows another user with authorization to pick up the session. This might be used by an administrator to pick up a user’s session to assist with a user problem.
